So Much to See
Burr Oak State Park is nestled within the foothills of the Appalachian Mountains, the woodlands feature beautiful valleys, stunning vistas, rocky outcroppings, and even several out-of-the-way caves. Lush hardwood trees, including oaks and hickories, provide a verdant filter from the golden sun in the summer and a fiery display of reds, oranges, and yellows in the fall.
The forest is home to an abundance of wildlife, and the observant eye may see white-tailed deer, raccoons, ruffed grouse, squirrels, wild turkeys, and any number of bird species. Along the shores of Burr Oak Lake, you might spy an industrious beaver, a box turtle sunning itself on a rock or log, a magnificently colored wood duck, or a variety of splashing fish.
Wildflower enthusiasts will delight in our springtime blooms, including orchids, trilliums, jack-in-the-pulpits, lilies, and violets.
Wind your way through the 23-mile loop along the shores of Burr Oak Lake, or take a stroll along our Chipmunk Trail. Whichever you choose, please be sure to stay on the trails, which are clearly marked for your safety, and have fun!
